My Dogs Casey & Max
I first discovered the benefits of an all natural diet for dogs when my dog, Max, was ten years old and developed a crippling case of arthritis. After trying the traditional approaches of anti-inflammatory medicines and steroids, which failed to help, I consulted with a veterinarian who focused on Max’s diet.
The veterinarian explained that switching Max to a natural raw food diet would help combat the arthritis. He gave me some articles describing how dogs’ digestive systems are designed for raw foods, and some recipes so I could make Max’s meals. I studied the articles and prepared the raw meat and vegetable mixture according to the recipes the vet gave me.
I was astounded at the progress Max made – in just 30 days he was acting more like a puppy than an old dog and he had regained his joyful attitude.
I put my other dog Casey on the diet at the same time. During the first month, Casey’s chronic skin problems started clearing up. Although he had been bothered by skin problems almost since puppyhood, they eventually disappeared and never returned.
Max thrived on the food and lived another five years before finally succumbing to old age at fifteen (considered old for a dog his size and breed). I attribute the last five healthy years of his life, and the companionship that we enjoyed together, to the raw food diet that the veterinarian recommended.
