Who formulates your recipes? +
Our recipes are formulated with top experts, veterinarians, and veterinary nutritionists. All of our recipes are reviewed and approved by our advisory panel of vets and vet nutritionists.
What kind of product research has been conducted on your food? +
All of our recipes are validated by a 3rd-party lab to meet AAFCO nutritional requirements, which is one of three AAFCO-approved substantiation methods, and the method most pet companies rely on as it's the most accurate way to validate a food's nutrition.

Feeding trials is one of the others but it's not at all common among pet food companies. This is for a few reasons. Primarily, feeding trials are only conducted on 6 pets, which doesn't typically provide as much information as lab validation does.

An important note here is that AAFCO holds all three substantiation methods with equal weight, meaning they do not consider feeding trials a better or worse method than lab validation.
Are your ingredients ethically sourced? +
Yes. All of our ingredients are sourced from farms we trust. We visit each farm regularly to ensure not only the quality of the ingredients but to ensure the farm meets our rigorous standards for humane treatment of both staff and animals.

Transitioning to Raw +
How do I transition my pet from kibble or canned food to raw? +
Every pet is unique. But for most pets, we recommend following our complete transition guides for dogs and cats. It's important to start slow, with only about 25% raw food mixed with their current food. Over the course of several days, slowly increase the amount of Darwin's while decreasing the amount of their previous food until they are feeding 100% Darwin's.
How long does the transition usually take? +
Most pets take about 7-10 days to transition. That said, every pet is unique and you know your pet best. Go at your own pace.
What signs should I look for during the transition? +
Within the first on a raw diet, most pet parents report smaller, firmer stools in their pet, as well as more mealtime excitement and more energy. Tummy upset and changes in stool are uncommon but normal during transition to any new diet.
How much raw food should I feed my pet? +
We have a feeding chart that shows our recommended amount of raw food per day based on your pet's weight, and translates that into the frequency and quantity for your subscription.
Is raw food safe for puppies or kittens? +
We don't recommend feeding a raw diet to puppies or kittens under 4 months old. As both their digestive system and immune system are still developing, we recommend gently cooking Darwin's until they're at least 4 months (16 weeks) old.
What if my pet refuses to eat raw food? +
If your pet is struggling to adjust to their new meals, we hve tips in our transition guides for dogs and cats, or give us a call for specialized transition advice.
Do I need to add any supplements? +
All of our meals are complete and balanced, meaning there is no need to add any additional vitamins or supplements unless desired.
Detox / is that normal? +
When transitioning to any new diet, it's uncommon but normal to see some temporary changes in digestion. This can include mild tummy troubles and changes in stool. This typically only lasts for 24-48 hours. For more information, please visit our transition guides for dogs and cats.
